What a bittersweet yet uplifting and empowering morning at the San Diego Brain Tumor walk at Liberty Station in downtown San Diego! In Honor of: I do not often write about personal things on my business blog but bear with me for a brief moment as this particular event struck home for me. Mrs. Sharon Swain, my former teacher, principal's wife, class sponsor, and more, was just diagnosed with a terminal tumor less than a month ago and is now spending her last days surrounded by her family and those who's lives have been touched and changed by her over the years - which are MANY! Seeing her amazingly sweet spirit, even through these trying days, has been an inspiration to me and a reminder of the brevity of life on earth and how blessed I am to be able to call heaven my final home. The National Brain Tumor Society is a national nonprofit organization that creates events across the country to raise funds that go directly to brain tumor research, awareness, and public motions to find more treatments and possible cures. The events allow for friends and family members of those who have battled or are battling a brain tumor(s) to raise money for this cause and the numbers raised for this San Diego event yesterday by the 500 participants that walked were amazing - $61,800!! - with the largest team bringing in $10,000 of that and an amazing woman raising $7,000 as the largest amount raised by a single person. The testimonies shared on stage and even with me personally, while I was meeting everyone while capturing memories, were bittersweet yet humbling and empowering. The smiles were so sincere, the joy was contagious and hearing several testimonies of those who found God through their or their loved ones process was inspiring. I was so glad to see the large group of survivors that came together to walk and also felt the love from those who walked in honor or memory of their loved one(s) that could not be here to walk today. It was a perfect place and time to reflect on all of the good memories that we can remember about those who have passed on before us and also to remind us to cherish each moment we have with those who are still with us now.
